At the 2026 International Motor Show for
Transportation (IAA Transportation 2026) in Hanover, Germany, Cummins and its
zero-emission brand, Accelera™, announced plans to further expand their battery
manufacturing capacity in Europe. At the same time, Cummins showcased a range
of products and solutions covering electric, hybrid, natural gas, and
multi-fuel engines, offering commercial vehicle customers a wider array of
powertrain options.
Accelera Expands European Battery Manufacturing Footprint
Accelera plans to produce a new-generation
lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery platform for the commercial vehicle market
at its facility in Spain. Designed for high-intensity operating conditions such
as those encountered by buses and trucks, this platform meets commercial
vehicles’ performance and reliability requirements while helping customers
reduce carbon emissions.
This expansion will further enhance
Accelera’s battery manufacturing capabilities in Europe and drive the adoption
of electric commercial vehicles in the European market.
HELM Platform Advances Multi-Fuel Engine Development
At the exhibition, Cummins highlighted its
HELM™ multi-fuel engine platform. Featuring a unified architecture, this
platform can be adapted to different fuels and application scenarios, helping
original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) reduce product development complexity
and meet increasingly stringent emissions regulations.
The all-new HELM™ B7.2 engine also made its
debut at the exhibition. Built on a proven engine platform, this product meets
stricter emissions regulations while delivering power, reliability, and uptime.
Cummins also showcased the X15N heavy-duty
natural gas engine in Europe for the first time, offering customers a
ready-to-use low-carbon power solution.
In addition, Cummins demonstrated the
hybrid capabilities of the X10 platform. As the first HELM™ platform engine
launched in Europe, the X10 features a unified architecture that supports
advanced diesel power and future low-carbon fuel solutions. Developed to meet
stringent global emissions standards, including Euro 7, this platform optimizes
fuel efficiency while increasing power density, enabling it to meet performance
requirements that previously required larger-displacement engines.
The B7.2, X10, and X15N exemplify Cummins’
technological strategy in the multi-fuel powertrain sector, offering commercial
vehicle customers a wider range of powertrain options.
Innovative Component Technologies Enhance Vehicle Performance
Cummins’ Components business also showcased
a range of technologies spanning the powertrain and vehicle systems, including
the U-Module™ aftertreatment system—which meets Euro 7 and India’s BS-VII
emissions regulations—the Meritor® 17X HE heavy-duty drive axle, and the MIS-09
ProTec™ front independent suspension system designed for the bus and long-haul
passenger transport markets.
In addition, Cummins showcased technologies
in areas such as turbocharging, valve train systems, fuel systems, software,
and electronic controls. Through the synergistic optimization of powertrain and
vehicle systems, these technologies help enhance vehicle performance,
operational efficiency, and reliability, while helping customers reduce total
cost of ownership.
At the IAA Transportation 2026 exhibition,
Cummins showcased its technology portfolio ranging from batteries and electric
powertrains to hybrid, natural gas, and multi-fuel engines, further
demonstrating its capability to provide powertrain solutions for diverse
markets and application scenarios.
